Diary of a Designer Bride-to-Be : Meet the Bridesmaids!

"Bridesmaids' - a film to which there will be NO sequel.

"Bridesmaids' - a film to which there will be NO sequel.

Imagine my excitement when I heard in Stylist Magazine that there would be a follow up to 'Bridesmaids' the film! And imagine my disappointment when I realised I'd been drawn in by the headline and actually it's just the writers making another film 'NOT a sequel to Bridesmaids'. Ah well. It made me think about my wonderful BM's so I decided it was about time I shared them all with you!

For me, it was a no-brainer as to who I should pick to be my go-to girls. I am blessed with such amazing friends but there are three in particular who are pretty special. I was very content with my choice until I realised I had made an ENORMOUS MISTAKE. They are all tall, slim, beautiful. I am short. VERY short. I envisage my wedding day being yet another day of craning my neck upwards in order to be part of a conversation and pretty much looking like the girl below...

Hashtag short people problems.

By this point it was a bit late to un-ask them and hire in some vertically-challenged stand ins, so instead I shall have to invest in some extremely high heels and relegate the girls to flip flops! Sorry girls! Anyway, may I present to you, the Seed-Rennie Bridesmaids!

Sarah looking beautiful on her wedding day

Sarah looking beautiful on her wedding day

Sarah is my gorgeous bestie and we went to high school together {many} years ago and I am godmother to her awesome son Felix.

Her real-life job on the ‘Jeremy Kyle Show’ (otherwise known as a Partner in a Family Law Solicitor’s firm in South Manchester) means that she is my no-nonsense, straight talking, down to earth saviour. Sarah is the best at helping me to rationalise any drama and gives me perspective on things as well as being a brilliant partying buddy and we have shared many a depraved girl’s holiday together!

She always knows what’s happening and has a plan so I know that come the morning of the wedding, I can still have full-scale bridezilla meltdown safe in the knowledge that everything will be fine and Sarah will sort it. Sorry in advance, Sarah….  I also know my hen party (She’s under strict instructions not to call it a hen ‘do’) will be planned with military precision.  And hopefully a stripper of some sort….

Ailsa looking fabulous at my 30th birthday

Ailsa looking fabulous at my 30th birthday

Yummy Mummy Ailsa is almost as silly as me so it was only natural that we got on like a house on fire when we were introduced when I moved to Warwickshire.

A fabulous mutual friend suggested we meet up as Ailsa already lived here and I was new to the area and in the past 5 years we’ve become the closest of friends – even though she is one of those strange people who actually enjoys exersise. I genuinely don’t know what I’d do without her. (And wine).

Ailsa is an extremely talented wedding florist which means she automatically got the job as OUR wedding florist – luckily for us she’s not one of those florists who puts tightly packed diamantes, feathers, jewels and all other manner of tat into a bouquet, she happens to know our (read: my) style perfectly and I can’t think of anyone I’d like to do the flowers more!

Just don’t let her pick a film or persuade you to drink a bottle of wine in the back of the cinema at said film. It never ends well. Trust me.

L-R - Ailsa & I at a Cheryl concert (!), Ailsa after the Wolf Run (some sort of hard exersise thing), Ailsa being a flower fairy.

Gorgeous Kate on a beach.

Gorgeous Kate on a beach.

Actually she’s from North Yorkshire but she lives in Melbourne now. We have Kate to thank for me writing this blog right now as she did the biggest bridesmaid’s job of all - she is the matchmaker extraordinaire who set up me and Mr. R six years ago!

Kate and I met whilst working at Tigerprint too long ago to mention, we became dear friends and cemented our friendship over a design trip to Dublin whilst drinking one too many Guinness & black’s! She grew up with Mr. R and so has plenty of embarrassing stories to tell about him when he was younger and has served as an official endorsement to him – if Kate likes him, he must be a good egg!

Kate bravely moved to Melbourne quite a few years ago and has never looked back – she’s headed up big design teams at Target and Kmart and now has a very fancy job at a big stationery company called Smiggle. I miss her like crazy but we’re always in touch and I’m so incredibly proud of everything she has achieved.

You can spot her a mile off with her beautifully bright lipsticked smile and always perfectly manicured nails. And if you her someone say ‘Bloody Lovely’ it’s probably her…

Celebrity Bridesmaid Amanda Holden - {just kidding}

Amanda keeps begging to be my bridesmaid but I'm just like, 'Erm, Amanda, stop calling me, it's getting embarrasing!'.

L-R: Amanda desperate to have her picture taken with me at a party, Amanda not leaving me alone at another party.

Aside from the Amanda drama, I feel so very lucky and proud to have such wonderful friends and beautiful little nieces and I wouldn't want to get married without any of them by my side!
